In 2011, Kurt Pycior conceived of a academic program which would forge an alliance between William Jewell College (WJC) and the City of Liberty. The goal: foster redevelopment initiatives, strengthen community relations and build a college-town atmosphere, with Liberty Square at its hub.
Kurt envisioned a partnership where the students would function as liaisons and facilitators between the College and the City of Liberty, focusing on repurposing existing structures and attractions to draw residents, students, alumni, and tourists to downtown Liberty.
Kurt presented the concept to the Mayor's Downtown Task Force, and the program began with four WJC students. Kurt currently supervises the curriculum on an ongoing basis, acting as project manager, facilitator, and mentor for the program and students.
